Bowls which is also referred to as Flat Green Bowls and Lawn Bowls is a very popular sport mainly within the commonwealth countries, with the big nations being England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Australia and New Zealand.
The word "bowls" occurs for the first time in the law books in 1511 in which Henry VIII confirmed bowls as a unlawful game. Also in a act of Parliament in 1541 and it was not repealed until 1845 artificers, labourers, apprentices, servants and the like were forbidden to play bowls at any time except Christmas, and then only in their master's house and presence.
Variations to the flat green bowls game include Short-Mat bowls and Crown Green Bowls, once Lawn bowls was only played outdoors on grass, but in this modern age it is also played on an artificial surface and Indoors.
